Washington, Nov 9 -

Recognized for her achievement and continued efforts to keep children, and all consumers, safe online Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) was presented with the Award for Outstanding Achievement by the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI).  Congresswoman Bono Mack is highly-regarded as a nationally recognized leader for her efforts to advance policies that give children and consumers the tools to stay safe online. As a senior Member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, Congresswoman Bono Mack is well-known for her efforts to fight spyware and make consumers aware of the dangers associated with peer-to-peer software online.

“I would like to thank the Family Online Safety Institute for this recognition.  As we all know, the Internet is a powerful resource that can be used to educate and distribute information instantly.  However, we must continue to inform consumers – particularly children – about how to protect themselves while online,” stated Bono Mack.  “One of the best ways to achieve this goal is to put forth policies that grant industry the freedom to guard against bad actors while at the same time promoting the tools and methods that have a proven record of success.”

FOSI recognizes the Congresswoman’s work in introducing H.R. 1319, the Informed P2P User Act, and the Securely Protect Yourself Against Cyber Trespass Act, SPY Act and praises Bono Mack’s priority of raising awareness.

“Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack is a tireless advocate for a safer Internet,” said Stephen Balkam, Family Online Safety Institute CEO. “She offers a wealth of resources to help consumers make informed decisions about their online activities, and her work in Congress to raise awareness about online safety has helped make the Internet a safer place for kids and their families. We’re pleased to honor her efforts with this award.”
