Crenshaw Statement on Earmark Moratorium

WASHINGTON, DC – The following statement from Congressman Ander Crenshaw outlines his position in support of an earmark moratorium. The House Republican Conference passed an earmark moratorium for the 112th Congress at its organizational meeting on Thursday, November 18.

“With the federal debt at more than $13 trillion, Congress needs to put a microscope on the federal budget system and make tough choices to rein in crippling big- government spending. That includes earmarks.

“From one side of the Fourth Congressional District to the other, constituents continue to tell me that Congress needs to get its fiscal house in order. I couldn’t agree more. That’s why I stood side-by-side with them in support of an earmark moratorium this year, and I take the same stance moving forward into the 112th session of Congress.

“Earmarks are one part of Washington’s addiction to big-government spending and need to be addressed. A moratorium on earmarks is an important first step of many that need to be taken in order to return strength to our nation’s economy and build a brighter future for our children and grandchildren.”
