Volunteer Service Opportunities

Volunteering is an excellent way for young Americans to gain valuable work experience and give back to their communities at the same time.  The following links will give you more information on volunteer opportunities with the federal government.

USA Freedom Corps
President Bush created the USA Freedom Corps to foster an American culture of service, citizenship & responsibility. Learn more about the USA Freedom Corps here.

Americorps
Discover national service opportunities with AmeriCorps. When you complete your AmeriCorps service, you will be eligible for an education award to cover costs for college and vocational training - both past and future expenses.

The National Mentor Program
When you become a mentor, you can change a child's life. Through this site, you will discover volunteer opportunities for yourself or find a mentoring program for a young person you care about.

Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Student Volunteer Program
The VA voluntary service program allows students to explore health care career options and offers scholarship opportunities to student volunteers who help provide care for our nation's veterans.

The Teach for America Program
Teach For America is a national corps of recent college graduates of all majors who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools and become leaders in the effort to ensure that all children have an equal chance in life.

National Health Service Corps (NHSC)
Similar to the Teach for America Program, the NHSC's mission is to assign physicians and other health care providers to serve in communities with shortages of health professionalsin return for scholarships and student loan repayment programs.
