Childers Applauds Decision to Lift Drilling Moratorium

October 13, 2010

Washington, DC – Congressman Travis Childers (MS-01) released the following statement in support of Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar’s announcement to lift the moratorium on deepwater drilling:

“I applaud Secretary Salazar’s decision to lift the moratorium on deepwater drilling for responsible actors who meet strict safety requirements for their drilling operations. I was proud to have joined Rep. Charlie Melancon of Louisiana in introducing legislation in July to lift the moratorium, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives with bipartisan support, and am pleased that Secretary Salazar has heeded our calls. The Deepwater Horizon oil spill has been a national tragedy, one we can ill afford as we continue working toward making a full economic recovery. I will continue working with my colleagues from both sides of the aisle to retain deep drilling jobs and further increase our domestic energy supply, keeping American dollars in American pockets and helping rebuild our national economy.”
