STOP-LOSS SPECIAL PAY APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED

Washington, DC – Congressman Christopher Carney (PA-10) announced that the deadline for individuals to apply for Stop-Loss Special Pay has been extended to December 3, 2010.

Last year, Congress established special payments for over 185,000 service members who have had their enlistments involuntarily extended since September 11, 2001, as part of the 2009 War Supplemental Appropriations Act. Department of Defense officials estimate about 80,000 eligible service members, veterans and beneficiaries have yet to apply for the stop-loss special pay. The original deadline was October 21, 2010.

“As a Commander serving in the Navy Reserve, I understand firsthand the sacrifices these brave men and women have had to make to protect our country,” said Congressman Carney. “These service members have gone above and beyond the call of duty and this special payment is in recognition of the hardship placed on these troops and their families. I strongly encourage those who may be eligible to take advantage of this extended deadline.”

The Retroactive Stop-Loss Special Pay is available to service members who had their enlistment extended or retirement suspended due to Stop-Loss between September 11, 2001 and September 30, 2009. Service members from every branch of the military will receive compensation.

All applications must be submitted to their respective services no later than December 3, 2010. Service members must provide documented proof they were Stop-Lossed with their claim. For more information please see:
