With West Virginia's strong history of military service, caring for America's service men and women could not be more important. Congresswoman Capito is committed to providing West Virginia veterans with the support they've earned through their dedicated service to their country.

Capito supported the new GI Bill to greatly enhance educational benefits for post-9/11 veterans, providing them with new opportunities to succeed after completing their military service. Under the new bill, American military men and women can receive full tuition at a public-in-state university for four years, in addition to living expenses, books and other fees. The bill's passage marks the first time since the Vietnam War that veterans have had access to a full four year degree under the GI Bill.

She has also made healthcare a priority, with a particular concern for rural veterans who often face unique obstacles when it comes to accessing the care and support they need. Passing an amendment to the Department of Veterans Affairs appropriations legislation, she was able to redirect $5 million to create the Office of Rural Health.

Capito also introduced legislation to create new avenues of locally-based care for rural veterans suffering from Traumatic Brain Injury, and co-sponsored the Josh Omvig Suicide Prevention Act to mandate mental health screening and consultation for suicide prevention among service members facing post-traumatic stress disorder.

Through her role on the House Financial Services Committee she was able to enhance federal support for the Veterans Affairs home loan guarantee program, providing additional assistance to veterans seeking to purchase a new home. To counter troubling homelessness rates among the nation's veterans, she has also supported legislation to create a new liaison within the Department of Housing and Urban Development specifically for coordinating assistance for homeless veterans.

Most importantly, Capito remains committed to providing our military men and women with the resources and funding they need during their service, while also ensuring that support stays with them as a veteran.
