Committee Assignments

Rep. Shelley Moore Capito serves on the House Financial Services Committee, which has jurisdiction over the nation's housing and financial services sectors. Members oversee banking, insurance, securities, public housing, real estate and other financial institutions. As a senior member of the committee, Rep. Capito is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity which oversees the Department of Housing and Urban Development, related federal agencies and tackles issues ranging from affordable housing to government-sponsored mortgage insurance programs, and the National Flood Insurance Program. She is also a member of two additional subcommittees: the Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government Sponsored Enterprises and the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit.

Given the importance of infrastructure improvements throughout West Virginia, Capito also serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. The committee has oversight over federal transportation officials and manages legislation related to aviation, roads, bridges, mass transit and railroads. It also oversees the work of the Army Corps of Engineers and key infrastructure needs. She is a member of three subcommittees: the Subcommittee on Aviation; the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit; and the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management.

Capito is also one of the newest members of the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. She was named to the committee in February of 2009, and is one of only a few members hailing from a major coal-state. With this role, Capito will have a new platform to ensure that West Virginians have a voice in the important discussions surrounding our nation's energy future and environmental standards.
