Miller Statement on Guantanamo Detainee Case Verdict

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10), member of the Committee on Homeland Security, today issued the following statement on the verdict in the case against Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani, the first Guantanamo Bay detainee to face criminal charges in a civilian court:

“This verdict is a vivid demonstration why America needs to treat terrorists as enemy combatants, which includes prosecuting them in a military commission. Hopefully, the Obama Administration will reassess their misguided approach on insisting on civilian trials for terrorists and also realize that keeping Guantanamo open is necessary for our national security.”
