Senator Boxer on Veterans Day 2010

Tuesday, November 9, 2010

 Dear Friend:

On Veterans Day, we honor and commend the brave women and men who have served our nation during the most difficult of times.  We will always owe a debt of gratitude to the members of our armed services, who have fought and died to defend our country and its citizens. This year, as we observe Veterans Day, we must recommit ourselves to meeting the challenges faced by today’s veterans.  Increasingly, young men and women are returning from combat with wounds, both physical and mental, that could affect them for the remainder of their lives.  Our nation cannot – must not – allow their needs to go unmet.

I believe that we have a sacred obligation to those who have given so much for all of us.  That is why I am working in the U.S. Senate to improve health care, education, job opportunities, and other support for veterans, military personnel and their families.  To read more about my work, please click here.

This week, gatherings will be held throughout our state to honor our veterans.  (For a list of Veterans Day events in California, click here.)  On Veterans Day and whenever you see veterans or service members, I hope you will thank them for their extraordinary service.

Sincerely,

Barbara Boxer, US Senator, California
U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer
