Washington, Nov 30 -

Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) today expressed her concern regarding the Democrat Majority in Congress turning good, responsible legislation into a bloated and expensive bill that opens the door to more fraud and abuse of federal spending.   Bono Mack voted against the Senate Amendment to H.R. 4783, the Claims Resolution Act of 2010, a $5.78 billion omnibus package of bills intended to resolve various Indian claims settlements, including the Cobell v. Salazar case and various Indian water claims, but when amended by the Senate added additional spending programs that should have been considered by the House as separate, stand-alone legislation.

“I support and believe the settlements of the Cobell v. Salazar case and various Indian water rights claims are just and long overdue.   In fact, the Cobell v. Salazar case has passed the House of Representatives previously with my support,” stated Bono Mack.  “I am disappointed that once again the Democrat Majority in Congress has turned responsible and justified legislation into a vehicle to cram bad, bloated spending bills down the throat of the American people.”

“The rules under which the House Democrat Majority brought H.R. 4783 to the floor denied any Representative the ability to offer amendments to improve objectionable provisions included in H.R. 4783,” commented Bono Mack   "This is exactly the type of tactic that so offends the American people and it is now time to consider legislation in an aboveboard and transparent process."
