Washington, Nov 15 -

In the first week of the lame duck session, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) continued her efforts to cut government spending and co-sponsored legislation that would rescind the remaining unobligated funding of the ‘stimulus’ program and return it to the Department of the Treasury.  The legislation introduced by Congressman Jerry Lewis (CA-41), American Recovery and Reinvestment Rescission Act, would restore the $12 billion to the U.S. Treasury to help pay down the massive debt.

“The ‘stimulus’ was signed into law almost two years ago, and has not had a positive effect on our looming unemployment rate,” stated Bono Mack.  “The ‘stimulus’ irresponsibly threw taxpayer money into pet projects with little oversight, and did little to spark job creation.  Rescinding the $12 billion in unobligated funds and giving it back to the Treasury is in the best interest of the taxpayers and our economy.”

“I have previously made calls for a responsible, pro-growth economic plan to create jobs and stabilize our economy.  The ‘stimulus’ did not do the job it was intended for, and that is why I am a cosponsor of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Rescission Act--to change course and strengthen our economic security by paying down the nation’s massive debt.”
