Washington, Nov 30 - Congressman Marsha Blackburn (TN-7) renewed her call for the FCC to step back from its attempt to federally regulate the internet. Early reports indicate that FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski is working on a new architecture for “net neutrality” that would establish federal controls over the internet via Title I of the Telecommunications Act. Genachowski faced solid bi-partisan opposition to his earlier attempts to impose Title II controls on the internet. Blackburn is the author of H.R. 3924 a bill that would give Congress sole authority for rulemaking for the internet.

“This is a hysterical reaction by the FCC to a hypothetical problem. This would be a massive expansion of federal authority at a time when Americans want less government and will put a choke hold on job growth when we’re trying to create jobs. Chairman Genachowski has little if any Congressional support for net neutrality. He can expect this folly to be resolutely overturned in the new year, and to ensure that, I will reintroduce my bill to pull the FCC from the policy making process on the first day of the 112th Congress.”
