Our senior citizens have given a lifetime of service to this country, and now it’s up to all of us to make sure they can live their sunset years productively and in dignity. Seniors deserve a government that is committed to preserving the foundation that they built, and committed to protecting their rights. We must safeguard the government programs, such as Social Security and Medicare, that serve our seniors and provide for their financial and medical needs.

As a Member of Congress, I have worked continuously to improve the programs that our seniors rely on every day. As the Congress considers bills that are of critical importance to seniors, I pledge to continue to be a voice in Washington for Southwest Georgia’s senior citizens.

Priorities:

  • Ensure the solvency of Social Security and Medicare for the future, expand coverage of glaucoma screening, and repeal the Social Security Government Pension Offset.
  • Provide additional Social Security benefits to so-called “notch babies,” and prevent elder abuse and neglect.
Accomplishments:
  • Voted to protect senior citizens’ access to Medicare physicians and reverse scheduled cuts (21% in 2010) in the Medicare physician payment rates (H.R. 6331 and H.R. 3961).
  • Supported legislation to close the “doughnut hole,” or coverage gap, for prescription drug coverage, which will result in lower overall prescription drug costs for seniors (H.R. 3962).
  • Voted to provide free preventive care services for seniors and extend the solvency of the Medicare Trust Fund by five years (H.R. 3962).
  • Supported the Medicare Premium Fairness Act (H.R. 3631) to protect 11 million seniors and cash-strapped states from unfair increases in their 2010 Medicare Part B premiums.
