DoctorsThere are few issues that touch as many lives in as deep and intimate a way as health care. We’ve all been to a doctor’s office and many of us have even spent a night or two in the hospital for a medical procedure. We’ve watched a loved one struggle with a disease, disability, or chronic health condition. Whether you are a doctor or a patient, health care is a topic about which Americans of every age, income, geographical region, and political affiliation have strong opinions.

With the rising health care costs, we can no longer kick the can down the road and expect that future generations will improve the system. This page is designed to keep you up-to-date on health care related legislation that is pending before Congress, including the historic Health Care Reform legislation.

Click on the banner below to view my web page dedicated to the "Affordable Health Care for America Act," where you can read the bill and other related documents, learn the status of the bill, and more.

Priorities:

  • Provide quality, affordable, and accessible health care for Georgians and all Americans;
  • Expand the Community Health Center programs and encourage the recruitment and retention of health care providers in rural and underserved areas;
  • Improve efficiency through increased use of health information technology to reduce medical errors and high administrative costs;
  • Increase preventative health care measures for children and adults, as well as increased funding for medical research at the National Institutes of Health and other research institutions.

Accomplishments:

  • H.R. 2 the State Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization (SCHIP), providing cost-effective health coverage for 4 million more children and preserve coverage for 7 million children already enrolled, including 356,285 children in Georgia;
  • H.R. 3961 the Medicare Physician Payment Reform Act, repealing a 21% fee reduction scheduled for January 2010 and replacing it with a stable system that ends cycle of threatened fee cuts and short-term patches;
  • H.R. 3962 the Affordable Health Care for America Act, the historic health insurance reform bill that ensures affordability for the middle class, provides security for our seniors, and protects our children’s future by not adding to our deficit.
