Committee Assignments

Congressman Brian Bilbray (R-CA) was appointed to serve on the House Committees on Oversight and Government Reform, Veterans' Affairs and Science and Technology for the 111th Congress.

Committee on Oversight and Government Reform

The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, chaired by Rep. Edolphus “Ed” Towns (D-NY), is the main investigative and oversight committee in the House of Representatives.  The Oversight Committee has jurisdiction to investigate any federal program or policy that has federal implications.  Currently, the Oversight Committee is weighing in on issues such as the administration of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Wall Street corruption, and public health and disaster relief issues nationwide.  In these times of crises and economic uncertainty, Congressman Bilbray will work alongside his colleagues to conduct bipartisan investigations of government-led programs to make government work better for the American people.

Committee on Veterans' Affairs

The House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, chaired by Representative Bob Filner (D-CA), is responsible for reviewing veterans' programs and strengthening existing laws concerning veterans with emphasis on health care, disability compensation, job training, and education. Due to the large military community in his district, Congressman Bilbray is an avid supporter of military veterans and brings valued experience and expertise to the Veterans’ Affairs Committee.  Congressman Bilbray looks forward to continuing his work with Chairman Filner to create bipartisan solutions to our nation’s veterans’ assistance programs.

Committee on Science and Technology

Congressman Bilbray's final committee assignment was to the House Science and Technology Committee, which reviews the laws and programs associated with all non-defense federal scientific research and development.  Congressman Bilbray is dedicated to investing in scientific research for institutions such as the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health, which make him an effective addition to this Committee.  Additionally, the Congressman’s district includes world-renowned medical and biotech research facilities which further his expertise in these fields.

"I'm honored to serve on these three extremely valuable committees," Rep. Bilbray said. "I can't think of a more important time to serve on Oversight and Government Reform, especially during the time of economic uncertainty brought on by a lack of federal oversight in American financial and housing markets,” he continued.   “Realistically, these three committees are all important and intertwined with the daily lives of all Americans.  I am looking forward to working on these committees to tackle the issues most important to our communities, such as reforming our financial institutions, supporting our troops in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and investing in scientific research and development so our country can continue to lead the world for generations to come.”

Congressman Bilbray currently serves on the three noted committees and will continue to do so throughout the 111th Congress.
