Seniors and Veterans PDF Print
Seniors have worked hard their entire lives, and they deserve a stable retirement. Preserving and strengthening Medicare and Social Security is a high priority for Congressman Adler.

Social Security is a contract between generations, which is why John opposes decreasing benefits for future retirees. In Congress, he is working to keep Social Security solvent for future generations. John opposes the privatization of Social Security benefits. Social Security does not need to be dismantled - the future funding shortfall is fixable. Bipartisanship is needed to solve the problem, and John supports a bipartisan commission to find solutions to fixing the Social Security system.

John does not support cutting Medicare benefits or increasing costs for Medicare beneficiaries. There will be plenty of conversation in Washington to reign in entitlement spending, but cutting benefits or increasing cost-sharing for beneficiaries is not the answer.

Prescription drug costs continue to skyrocket-hurting seniors on a fixed income. Medicare Part D has failed to slow the growth in drug prices, and John is working to ensure that all seniors have access to affordable prescription drugs.

When the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was first introduced, it did not provide any assistance to our country's seniors or veterans. John's first bill he authored as a Member of Congress was the Saving America's Seniors and Veterans Act. This bill provides a one-time payment of $250 to retirees and disabled veterans. The payment will also go to federal and state pensioners who are not part of the Social Security system.

As a member of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, John is committed to serving the men and women who have selflessly sacrificed for our country. As a representative of the nearly 66,000 veterans who reside in the 3rd District, John is especially devoted to ensuring that those who have worn the uniform receive the best health care, the best benefits, and the most education and employment opportunities a grateful nation can offer.

John has fought for increased funding for veterans' health care. He is a proud cosponsor of the Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act, which will assist the Department of Veterans Affairs in properly budgeting services to veterans even if the federal government has not passed a budget in a timely manner.

John has also introduced the Fulfilling America's Promise to Our Veterans Act which will permanently prohibit the Department of Veterans Affairs from billing veterans who have private insurance for treatment of their service related disabilities.

As our first President George Washington once said, " The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional as to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their country."
