Disaster Relief and Recovery |
UPDATES:
See more photos of flood damage Here in Iowa, we are susceptible to all sorts of severe weather and natural disasters. While communities across Iowa are still recovering from the Floods of 2008, many more are facing another round of historic flooding that threatens to destroy homes, businesses and community buildings. With this second round of flooding taking its toll across the First District, I am more committed than ever to helping families and small businesses devastated by the rising flood waters protect themselves, their homes, and their businesses. Since Friday night, I have been in close contact with officials from Speaker Pelosi’s office, the White House, FEMA and other agencies that will likely be involved in federal assistance efforts. I will continue working hard to coordinate efforts between local, state and federal officials so we can get the affected communities back on their feet as quickly as possible. After the Governor submits a Local Emergency Declaration and a State of Emergency Proclamation, President Obama may issue a Federal Disaster Declaration. After the presidential declaration is issued, communities and individuals will know which federal resources will be available in their community. Please continue to visit my website for the latest information about flood assistance and disaster relief as this issue progresses. We will continue to update this page as we get more information. Additionally, my staff is here to help in any way we can. If your property, business or home has been damaged or you have questions about relief efforts and resources, please contact the district office closest to your home and my staff will work hard to be of service.
