REP. BECERRA: “THE TIME HAS COME TO REPEAL ‘DON’T ASK, DON’T TELL’”

WASHINGTON, DC—After the Department of Defense released its report on the potential impact of repealing the “don’t ask, don’t tell” law, Representative Xavier Becerra (CA-31), Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement:

“The time has come to repeal a law that unjustly forces patriotic able-bodied American citizens to hide who they truly are in order to fight and die for our country as members of the armed forces. The vast majority of the American people and our men and women in uniform are ahead of the politicians on this issue. This comprehensive report makes it clear—America is ready to end ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’.”

On May 27, 2010 the House of Representatives adopted the Murphy amendment to HR 5136, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2011, to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
