Biography of Rep. J. Gresham Barrett
Gresham Barrett was born and raised in Westminster, South Carolina. Gresham's first job was working in his father's hardware store as a coal bucket boy. It was there on Main Street where Gresham learned the conservative values he carries with him in the halls of Congress today; hard work, faith in God, service to others, devotion to family, personal responsibility, and love of country.
Gresham graduated from West-Oak High School where he played quarterback for the football team and met the love of his life, Natalie. He went on to earn his Bachelors degree from The Citadel, a historic military college in Charleston, SC.
After graduation, Barrett served four years in the United States Army, resigning his commission as Captain to return home and run the family furniture store in Westminster. He and his wife of twenty-four years, Natalie, have three children; Madison, Jeb, and Ross. Prior to serving in Congress, Gresham Barrett represented the people of South Carolinas 1st District for three terms in the State House of Representatives.
Currently, Gresham is serving his fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives where he maintains his commitment to encouraging economic growth through lower taxes, ensuring our nations security through a strong military, securing our border, defending the rights of the unborn, and protecting individual freedoms.
For the 111th Congress, Gresham Barrett serves on the Financial Services Committee and the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
