Hurricane Warning for Earl in Effect for Eastern North Carolina

Hurricane Earl, a Category 3 hurricane with 125 mph winds, is projected to approach the North Carolina coast by late Thursday and early Friday.  Several counties in the First District are under a hurricane warning, hurricane-force conditions (sustained winds of 74 mph or greater) are expected within the warned area. These counties include:  Beaufort, Bertie, Chowan, Craven, Pasquotank, Perquimans, and Washington.  A warning is typically issued 36 hours before the anticipated first occurrence of tropical storm-force winds (sustained winds of 39 mph or greater).
