Cummings Welcomes Decline In Number Of Unemployed Marylanders
Improvement in American economy trickles down to the OldLineState.
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (MD-07) released a statement following the decline in Maryland unemployment announced today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). BLS announced that Maryland unemployment had fallen to 7.5 percent in April, down from 7.7 percent in March.
“After a landmark month for our nation in April, in which we saw the most jobs gained in four years, this report about Maryland’s economy is great news,” said Cummings. “Clearly, the policies pursued by the Democratic Congress and President Obama are creating a recovery. However, we must remember that thousands of our Marylanders are still out of work, and the wasted potential of just one person is one too many.
“I will keep fighting for job-creating legislation, particularly the Local Jobs for America Act. Next week, I expect us to pass the American Jobs, Closing Tax Loopholes and Preventing Outsourcing Act, which will create critical American jobs. Our plan is working and we must allow it to bring America all the way back.”
