Recovery Act funds will help create Green job opportunities for Baltimore County.

(Washington, DC) - Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (MD-7) welcomed a grant totaling more than $4 million dollars announced Wednesday by U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis. The grant is part of a group of Energy Training Partnership awards authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The Energy Training Partnership grants total $100 million of the $500 million in Green Jobs training grant funding made available by the Recovery Act.

“This grant is yet another example of Recovery Act investment creating opportunities for displaced workers,” said Cummings. “The economy has begun to recover, but we must continue stoking the fires of innovation to return to a time of prosperity. Encouraging workers to move toward a sustainable economy and keeping high-paying jobs in America is a wonderful way to do that.”

The $4,637,551 was awarded to H-CAP Inc. H-CAP is the Healthcare Career Advancement Program, a national coalition of unions and employers supporting career advancement for healthcare workers. They will train healthcare workers to focus on energy, waste and water conservation. Training efforts will serve Baltimore County and Prince George’s County.

The Energy Training Partnership grant program will provide nationwide training for workers that prepare them to enter efficiency and renewable energy industries, as well as green occupations in other industries. These grants invest in partnerships made up of a diverse set of stakeholders including labor organizations, public or private employers in the energy efficiency and renewable energy industries, and the workforce system.
