    U.S. Summit for Global Citizen Diplomacy to Highlight Project Citizen
    Project Citizen–the Center for Civic Education's most widely internationally implemented civics program–has been recognized as one of ten best practices in K–12 education-related citizen diplomacy by the K–12 Education Task Force of the U.S. Summit and Initiative for Global Citizen Diplomacy. Project Citizen will be featured at the summit in November.

    The purpose of the summit and initiative is to demonstrate the importance of citizen diplomacy and make the case for enhanced resources in this area. The summit will take place at the Grand Hyatt Hotel November 16–19, 2010. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will serve as honorary chair of the summit and initiative. Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy Judith McHale and U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy Chair David Rowe will serve as co-chairs.
    2010 Portfolio Achievement Level Results
    LOUISVILLE, Ky - Puppy mills, healthy school lunches and texting while driving were among the topics tackled by classes participating in the 2010 Project Citizen National Showcase. Cosponsored by the Center for Civic Education and the National Conference of State Legislatures, the showcase featured portfolios created by students addressing public policy issues in their schools and local communities. State legislators attending NCSL's Legislative Summit evaluated the portfolios, and the achievement levels were announced on Wednesday, July 28.

    The Center for Civic Education announces the debut of our Project Citizen digital portfolio. The online tool showcases the component pieces of an exemplary Project Citizen portfolio and binder. The portfolio is the work of fifth-grade students from W.J. Quarles Elementary School in Long Beach, Mississippi. Thanks to teacher Carol Paola for all her hard work in the classroom and for compiling the "Teacher Ideas."

    Washington, D.C. - The American Civic Education Teacher Awards program announced three new honorees, recognizing their exemplary work preparing young people to become informed and engaged citizens. This year's ACETA recipients are: Jackie Viana of Hialeah Gardens Middle School in Hialeah Gardens, Fla., Milton Hyams of Incline High School in Incline Village, Nev., and Tamara Johnson of Kettle Moraine High School in Wales, Wis. more>>
    ARCADIA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP ON THE U.S. CONSTITUTION AND BILL OF RIGHTS
    WTP Logo Washington, D.C. - After three days of simulated congressional hearings on the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights, the class from Arcadia High School of Arcadia, California, has emerged as the national champion of the 23rd annual We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution National Finals.

    The academic competition marked the end of months of study and hard-won victories at the congressional district and state levels for more than 1,100 high school students representing all 50 states, District of Columbia, and the Northern Mariana Islands.
