McNerney to Hold G.I. Bill Info Fair & Veterans Workshop PDF Print E-mail

July 13, 2009

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) announced that on Saturday, July 18th, he will host a G.I. Bill Information Fair & Veterans Workshop from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Delta College’s Danner Hall in Stockton.

Veterans who served on active duty beginning on or after September 11, 2001 are eligible for new educational benefits that can be applied towards the cost of tuition, housing and books.  The Department of Veterans Affairs is expected to begin processing applications for these benefits on August 1st.

“Our nation owes a debt of gratitude to the new generation of veterans that have served our country since September 11, 2001,” said Rep. McNerney.  “The Post-9/11 G.I. Bill honors these brave young men and women for their service by providing much needed educational benefits.  I’m hosting this event so that our area’s veterans have access to the information they need to apply for these benefits.”

Service providers from local colleges, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the San Joaquin County Veterans Service Office will be available at the event to offer information and answer questions about these and other benefits available to veterans.
