Veterans Get Help at Workshop Hosted by McNerney PDF Print E-mail

April 27, 2010

Tracy, CA – A Veterans Assistance Workshop hosted by Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) this past weekend in Tracy drew a large crowd of veterans in search of assistance with Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) claims and other benefits.

Over 65 veterans attended the event and received help with submitting claims to the VA, obtaining or replacing service medals as well information about educational opportunities and military to civilian employment transition assistance.

“The men and women who serve our nation often return home either unaware of the many services and benefits available to them as veterans or find it difficult to navigate the process to receive their benefits,” Rep. McNerney said.  “I hosted this workshop so that veterans in our community can learn about and apply for these benefits.  I’m going to keep working for all our country’s veterans to receive the care they’ve earned.”

Secretary of the California Department of Veterans Affairs Roger Brautigan was also in attendance at the workshop.

“I’m thrilled to see so many veterans at the event,” said Secretary Brautigan.  “This workshop is a great opportunity to talk face-to-face with a service provider and learn about opportunities available to veterans.  It’s through events like this that veterans in our community are getting the help they need.”

Service providers at Congressman McNerney’s Veterans Assistance Workshop included:

  • California Department of Veterans Affairs
  • California’s Operation Welcome Home - CalVet Corps
  • Las Positas College Veterans First Program
  • ReBoot Camp
  • San Joaquin County Veterans Service Office
  • U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

Congressman Jerry McNerney’s Veterans Assistance Workshop was held Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Tracy’s City Hall.
