Secretary of the California Department of Veterans Affairs to attend event

April 22, 2010

Tracy, CA – Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) issued a reminder today that on Saturday, April 24th, he will host a Veterans Assistance Workshop from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at City Hall in Tracy, located at 333 Civic Center Plaza.   He also announced that Secretary of the California Department of Veterans Affairs Roger Brautigan will be attending the workshop.

“Too often, the brave men and women who serve in our nation’s Armed Forces return home either unaware of the many services and benefits available to them as veterans or find it difficult to navigate the process to receive their benefits,” Rep. McNerney said.  “The workshop will help veterans in our community learn about and apply for the benefits they have earned.”

The workshop will feature service providers who can aid veterans with Department of Veterans Affairs claims, such as disability compensation, pension, survivor benefits and medical claims.  Information about educational opportunities and obtaining or replacing service medals will also be available.

Service providers include:

  • California Department of Veterans Affairs
  • California’s Operation Welcome Home - CalVet Corps
  • U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
  • San Joaquin County Veterans Service Office
  • Las Positas College Veterans First Program

For more information, call Congressman McNerney's office at 209-476-8552.
