McNerney Brings Home Millions for Tri-Valley PDF Print E-mail

Will fund key transportation, infrastructure, public and child safety projects

January 21, 2010

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) announced today that key projects in the Tri-Valley will receive federal funding.  The funds will be used for essential transportation, infrastructure, and public and child safety projects.

“I’m proud to help bring home funds for essential transportation, infrastructure, and public and child safety projects to the Tri-Valley,” said Rep. McNerney.  “These projects are an investment in our economy and will help spur job creation in our area.  I’m going to keep fighting for the Tri-Valley to receive funding for projects that improve our infrastructure, transportation, and community resources.”

The funding for these projects is in addition to the $200,000 Congressman McNerney was able to secure for the Veterans Memorial Building in Danville.  The money for the Veterans Building will be used for a redevelopment project that will restore and preserve the space used many local veterans, seniors and community groups.

Descriptions for all of the projects along with the dollar amounts secured appear below.

$1,000,000 for Interstate 580 Corridor Improvements

Department of Transportation
Funding will be used to reduce daily congestion, improve the flow of transportation for a large geographical area, and to improve the I-580/I-680 interchange.  The recipient of this funding is the Alameda County Congestion Management Agency.

$1,050,000 for East Bay Regional Communications System
Department of Justice
Funding will be used for the purchase of communications equipment that will allow for shared public-safety communications between the five Tri-Valley cities in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties: Danville, Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton, and San Ramon.  The system will also allow for communications with emergency personnel in San Francisco and Oakland.  The recipient of this funding is the East Bay Regional Communications System Authority.

$550,000 for Safe and Bright Futures for Children Exposed to Domestic Violence
Department of Health and Human Services
Funding would be used to implement a federally approved plan to create a system in Contra Costa County to diminish the damaging effects of domestic violence on children and adolescents.  The recipient of this funding is Contra Costa County.

$600,000 for Park Conservation Crews

Department of Labor
Funding will be used to establish a conservation work force for park projects that enhance parks, improve the environment, and provide job training.  The recipient of this funding is the East Bay Regional Park District.
