McNerney Brings Home Millions for San Joaquin County PDF Print E-mail

Will fund key transportation, public safety and education projects

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) announced today that key projects in San Joaquin County will receive federal funding.  The funds will be used for essential transportation, public safety, and education projects.

“I’m proud to help bring home funds for essential transportation, public safety and education projects to San Joaquin County,” said Rep. McNerney.  “These projects are an investment in our economy and will help spur job creation in our area.  I’m going to keep fighting for San Joaquin County to receive funding for projects that improve our infrastructure, transportation and community resources.”   

In addition to these projects, areas of California suffering from air quality challenges, including the San Joaquin Valley, are set to receive $10 million to provide for the replacement of older diesel engines.  These grant funds are intended to help improve air quality throughout the region.

Descriptions for all of the projects along with the dollar amounts secured appear below.

$300,000 Altamont Commuter Express (ACE) Alignment Project
Department of Transportation
Funding will be used to improve the Altamont Commuter Express (ACE) rail service between the Central Valley and the Silicon Valley.  This project will identify a joint use alignment between California’s Central Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area. The recipient of this funding is the San Joaquin Council of Governments, located in Stockton, CA.

$500,000 Give Every Child a Chance Job Mentoring Program
Department of Labor
Funding will be used for a job mentoring program.  This program will provide students the opportunity to experience a work environment in careers of interest. The recipient of this funding is Give Every Child a Chance, located in Manteca, CA.

$800,000 Interchange at 1-5 and French Camp Road and Arch-Sperry Road Construction

Department of Transportation
Funding will be used to connect the Interstate-5/French Camp Road Interchange to Performance Drive and the Stockton Metropolitan Airport.  The Arch Road-Sperry Road arterial serves as an important link to the Stockton Metropolitan Airport and State Route 99.  The recipient of this funding is the San Joaquin Council of Governments, located in Stockton, CA.

$500,000 San Joaquin Regional Operations Facility Construction
Department of Transportation
Funding is being requested for property acquisition, design, and construction for the Regional Operations Center to enhance the Regional Transit District’s operations.  The new facility will consist of three major components: an operating garage, heavy maintenance shops, and a three-story administration block.  The recipient of this funding is the San Joaquin Regional Transit District, located in Stockton, CA.

$10,000,000 Emissions Reduction Program in California
Environmental Protection Agency
Funding will be used for grants to replace older diesel engines and improve air quality throughout California, including the San Joaquin Valley.  The local recipient of funding is the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District located in Fresno, CA.

$2,808,825 Metro Express-Airport Way Corridor Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project
Department of Transportation
Funding will be used for engineering, design, and costs associated with anticipated construction including the placement of shelters, paving of sidewalks, paving of roads, striping, and signage.  The purpose of this project is to expand existing BRT services south to the Stockton Airport from downtown Stockton.  The recipient of this funding is the San Joaquin Regional Transit District, located at in Stockton, CA.

$200,000 Operation Peacekeeper Youth Gang Outreach Program
Department of Justice
Funding will be used by the Stockton Police Department to conduct Operation Peacekeeper, a youth gang outreach program to help young individuals get out of gangs.  The program helps youth identify career opportunities and safe recreational activities in the community and works to prevent gang affiliation.  The recipient of this funding is the City of Stockton.
