Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) today urged residents of the San Joaquin Delta communities to submit comments to federal agencies on the future of the Delta and California’s water resources.

“I strongly urge residents of the San Joaquin Delta communities to participate in this opportunity to offer input on the future of the Delta,” said Rep. McNerney.  “As a federal plan is developed to address California’s water challenges, we must make our voices heard and ensure our seat at the table.”

Earlier this year, six federal agencies announced their plans, through a Memorandum of Understanding, to play a leading role in addressing California water challenges.  After this meeting, Congressman McNerney sent a letter to Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar urging him to actively solicit input from residents who live in the San Joaquin Delta area, which includes Contra Costa County and San Joaquin County.

Federal agencies are currently seeking input from the public on the issues they should consider during the development of a federal work plan to address California water issues.  Comments will be accepted until Tuesday, December 1^st and can be submitted online at http://www.nbc.gov/doi_feedback/water_comments.cfm.
