Kanjorski Announces $112,154 for Two Lackawanna County Fire Companies
WASHINGTON -.Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (PA-11) today announced that two Lackawanna County fire companies have received $112,154 through the Firefighter Investment and Response Enhancement (FIRE) grant program of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Greenwood Hose Company #1 in Moosic received $86,000 for new breathing apparatuses. Additionally, Blakely Hose Company #2 was recently awarded $26,154, marking the second FIRE grant for the hose company.
Congressman Kanjorski has long been a vocal advocate in ensuring firefighters and other emergency responders are well-equipped.
"Firefighters are heroes who play a critical role in protecting our communities throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. I am pleased that the federal government provides funding for the men and women who are out there saving lives while risking their own. We owe it to them to do all we can to help provide equipment that protects them," Congressman Kanjorski said.
Greenwood Fire Chief Chuck Molinaro called news of the award "phenomenal," explaining that the company's current equipment is nearing the end of its 15-year life expectancy. "This will benefit fire services throughout the Borough of Moosic and surrounding areas," Chief Molinaro said.
Congressman Kanjorski was among 286 cosponsors of the FIRE Act of 2000. More than $11 million in federal grants has been awarded to fire companies in the 11th congressional district since the FIRE grant program began. To date, 101 fire companies in the 11th congressional district have benefited from this federal grant program.
