Kanjorski Reflects on the Life of Ronald Reagan
Nanticoke, PA - Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (PA-11) issued the following statement upon learning of the death of former President Ronald Reagan:
"President Reagan may be best remembered for his stalwart opposition to communism and his role in helping to find a peaceful end to the Soviet era. History will no doubt rightfully credit him with strengthening the U.S. military to stand up to our cold war enemy, while at the same time reaching out to the Soviets to encourage them to become our friends.
"However, my memories of President Reagan will always center on his personal warmth and affability. I had the opportunity to serve in the Congress during President Reagan's second term. Even when I disagreed with him on issues, it was impossible not to like him. He and the late Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tip O'Neill, were both political adversaries and personal friends. Their relationship should stand as a model for everyone in public service."
