Kanjorski Reminds Constituents of Poconos Housing Hearing Monday

WASHINGTON - Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (PA-11) today is reminding constituents that the Congressional Field Hearing entitled "Broken Dreams in the Poconos: The Response of the Secondary Markets and Implications for Federal Legislation" will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 14, at East Stroudsburg University.

"The Poconos housing problem is a good example of a national issue - what can go wrong for first-time homebuyers," Congressman Kanjorski said. "At the hearing, we will hear a wide variety of testimony that will hopefully get us closer to finding solutions for a problem that is national in scope."

Congressman Kanjorski requested this hearing so that the Members of Congress would learn more about the multi-faceted problems in the Poconos housing industry, specifically problems faced by first-time homebuyers. The Capital Markets Subcommittee will host the hearing. Congressman Kanjorski is the most senior Democrat on this panel and the second leading Democrat on the Financial Services Committee.

The invited witnesses include affected homeowners, local advocates and industry leaders, and national experts who are trying to develop solutions to ensure equitable lending practices for all Americans.

The hearing will be held in the Keystone Room of the Center for Hospitality Management at East Stroudsburg University in East Stroudsburg, Pa. The public is invited to attend the hearing and seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Public parking will be available in the lots located along Ransberry Avenue and South Green Street. The Center for Hospitality Management is located on University Lane, about two blocks south of the parking lots.

A media table will be set up in the Keystone Room to accommodate members of the press.

Detailed directions can be found at East Stroudsburg University's Web site, http://www3.esu.edu/admission/visit_directions.asp.
