Kanjorski Announces One Week Left To Apply For Disaster Assistance
Public Assistance Grants Deadline is Nov. 22

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (PA-11) today announced that the deadline for private citizens to apply for assistance for damage wreaked by Tropical Depression Ivan is Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004. The deadline for public assistance grants is Monday, Nov. 22, 2004.

"With only one week left to apply for assistance, I urge all citizens in Northeastern Pennsylvania who suffered damage as a result of Tropical Depression Ivan to register for help now. I want everyone to know that assistance is still available through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, but it is important for all affected residents to apply before the upcoming deadline," Congressman Kanjorski said. "At this time I am also encouraging any municipalities that have not applied for public assistance to do so before the Nov. 22 deadline."

Citizens can apply for help by calling FEMA toll-free at 1-800-621-3362 or registering online at http://www.fema.gov/.

Public assistance grants include money for repair of public buildings and infrastructure. Congressman Kanjorski announced on Oct. 23 that FEMA had approved public assistance grants for Carbon, Columbia, Lackawanna, Luzerne and Monroe counties after he urged President Bush in a letter to allow FEMA to give the maximum amount of possible. Initially, FEMA was funding debris removal and emergency protective measures only.
