The improvements to Children’s Health Insurance made through this legislation will ensure continued health benefits for the 50,238 children currently enrolled in Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa (HAWK-I), and will provide coverage for the tens of thousands of low-income children in Iowa who currently qualify but remain uninsured.

Named for a soldier from Grundy Center who took his own life after returning from Iraq, this legislation directs the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to increase screening, counseling and provide other mental health services for returning war veterans.
