2010 Congressional Art Competition
“Triumph from Despair”

NEW ORLEANS - Congressman Anh "Joseph" Cao announced local winners in the 2010 Congressional Art Competition.  Three winning art works were chosen out of 55 entries submitted from New Orleans and Jefferson Parish high school students under the theme, "Triumph from Despair," chosen by the Congressman himself for the upcoming 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. 

Winning 1st Place was Kaitlyn Landry, a senior at the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts, for her watercolor, "New Neighbors."  Landry's painting will hang on exhibit for one year in the U.S. Capitol. 

The 2nd Place winner was Monet Du Plessis, also a senior at the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts, for her graphite, "Boni, Tony and Lillian."  Du Plesis' work will hang on display for one year in Congressman Cao's New Orleans District Office at 4640 South Carrollton Avenue.

Taking 3rd Place honors was Taylor Brazley, a 10th grader at Xavier Prep School, for her chalk pastel, "Peace."  Brazley's piece will be exhibited for one year in Congressman Cao's Washington, D.C. Office in the Rayburn Building.

Cao helped judge the contest along with representatives from Tulane University, Loyola University of New Orleans, Dillard University, Southern University of New Orleans (SUNO) and the University of New Orleans (UNO).

Cao also participated on a panel with Kyle Wedburg (President of New Orleans Center for Creative Arts), Brandon Odoms (2Cent Entertainment), Roscoe Riddicks, Jr. (Young Audiences), and Irvin Mayfield (Jazz musician and Chairperson of the New Orleans Public Library Board).
