  • Nye Disputes Gates' Proposal to Eliminate JFCOM

    Congressman Glenn Nye (VA-02) questioned U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates' proposal to eliminate U.S Joint Forces Command (JFCOM), headquartered in Norfolk, VA. JFCOM is one of the Department of Defense's ten combatant commands, and was created to coordinate joint training, development and experimentation among the different branches of the armed services. Gates' proposal comes at a time when DoD is trying to substantially trim its budget.

  • Nye Visits Troops in Afghanistan

    Congressman Glenn Nye (VA-02) returned home from a trip to Afghanistan yesterday. Nye was traveling with a congressional delegation led by Rep. Gene Taylor (MS-04) to examine the economic, political, and security progress in Afghanistan and receive an operational update from Navy Central Command and Commander U.S. Fifth Fleet. Additional members of the delegation included Representatives Joe Wilson (SC-02), Madeleine Bordallo (GU), Mike Conaway (TX-11), and Mark Critz (PA-12).
