"We have entered a global age – an age that will require international efforts to advance peace, prosperity, and cooperation.  I believe that, in this era, America should emerge as the global leader in the fight against poverty, injustice, abuses, and food insecurity.  We must lead the world in diplomatic engagement with both friends and enemies."

- Senator Roland W. Burris

Senator Burris is committed to protecting our national security while providing assistance to countries less fortunate than our own. He feels that, as a global leader, it is the duty of the United States to contribute aid to countries which suffer from extreme poverty, food insecurity, and drought. Senator Burris believes that we must do what is in our power to alleviate suffering in the world and promote peace and equality.

He supports the use of diplomacy whenever possible, so that our nation can continue to create and maintain peace throughout the world.  He believes that circumstances in Iran, North Korea, and Palestine-Israel necessitate diplomatic intervention to preserve global harmony. In countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan, where we are already at war, Senator Burris believes there should be a scaling down and eventual peaceful transitions to democratic governments.

Senator Burris supports our troops unequivocally, and believes that our country should never waver in protecting our national security.

Senator Burris is extremely supportive of the new direction in which President Obama is taking our nation. While it is in our best interest to lead with strength, it is important that America acts as a global leader and consensus-builder wherever possible and appropriate. Together with our allies, we can spread peace and freedom, making this planet a safer and more prosperous place for all.
