Please join me in honoring the United States Men's National Soccer Team for its performance in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.  As the first US soccer team to win its group since 1930, it is now clear that the United States can compete with the elite soccer programs of the world.

I am proud that one of our own 10th district residents, Jonathan Spector of Arlington Heights, is a member of our national soccer team.  Before joining a professional team, Jonathan played for St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights, and then went on to play club soccer for Schwaben AC of Buffalo Grove.

The team's achievement reflects the growth in popularity of soccer in the United States and the importance of athletic participation for building character and confidence in the Nation's youth.

I am an original co-sponsor of House Resolution 1527, commending the team for its achievement.
