HAUERS HONORED AT NATION’S CAPITAL

WASHINGTON, D.C.– The Hauer Family of El Cajon were honored today at a luncheon hosted by America’s Awards where they received the Nobel Prize for Goodness award for their work with physically and/or mentally disabled children for the past twenty years.  Attending the luncheon were Congressman Duncan Hunter (CA-52) and Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (MS).  Both made brief remarks and Hunter presented the Hauer’s son, Clayton, who is suffering from cerebral palsy, with a flag that will be flown over the U.S. Capitol Building in his honor and a brick that had been used in the construction of the original stairs leading to the House of Representatives in 1860.

Chuck and Penny Hauer were selected from a group of 607 candidates from around the country by a Blue-Ribbon Selection Committee.  The Hauers have adopted 35 disabled children of all races over the last twenty years. Each honoree receives $1,000 from the Positive Thinking Foundation.

Accompanying the Hauers was their son, Clayton Hauer, who also suffers from deteriorating vision.  Clayton had told America’s Awards that he would like to see Washington, D.C. before losing his eyesight.  America’s Awards arranged for a personal tour of the U.S. Capitol Building and the White House for Clayton and the rest of the award recipients.  “The Hauer family is the greatest evidence that America still has a good heart,” said Hunter.
