CONGRESSMAN  KAGEN  PREPARES  FOR  2009
BY  LISTENING  TO  CONSTITUENTS

December 17, 2008

Appleton, WI -- Congressman Steve Kagen, M.D. is meeting this week with constituents and local leaders across Northeast Wisconsin, as he gets ready for his second term in Congress.  When he takes the oath of office on January 6, 2009, Kagen will carry with him the fresh concerns and suggestions of thousands of people throughout the 8th Congressional district.

“People here need help in a number of areas and, as their voice in Congress, I look forward to going right to work on their behalf when the new session begins this January,” said Kagen.

On Monday and Tuesday, Kagen held open meetings with constituents in Waupaca, New London, Clintonville, Pulaski, Green Bay, Wrightstown, Kaukauna, Appleton, Oconto, Oconto Falls, Lena, Coleman, Crivitz, Marinette and Peshtigo.  He met with constituents and local leaders and listened to their concerns.

Kagen says that when the 111th Congress convenes next month they will look to pass an economic recovery package that could include tax cuts, investments in America’s infrastructure, aid to states and other domestic actions to stimulate rapid economic growth.

“We have a lot to accomplish, and by working together we will,” Kagen said.  “Pursuing balanced trade deals to level the playing field, restoring higher-wage jobs here in Northeast Wisconsin and guaranteeing access to affordable health care for all of us will all be on the table when we take this country in a new direction in 2009 and I will be there working hard for everyone in Northeast Wisconsin.”

Today, Kagen meets with his advisory committees on Energy, Economic Development, Health Care, Veterans and Agriculture.  Made up of local citizens, elected officials and business experts, Kagen’s advisory committees provide him with up-to-date insights and analysis into our most pressing local issues.

“I am working hard to bring about the changes we need.  One thing that will remain constant, however, is that I am always listening to my constituents,” said Kagen.
