Yarmuth Announces $2.6 Million for Bowman Field, Louisville International Airport

(Washington, DC) Today, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) announced that Bowman Field and Louisville International Airport will each receive more than $1.3 million from the Federal Aviation Administration.

“This is excellent news for two of Louisville’s most important facilities,” Congressman Yarmuth said.  “Louisville International, with partners like UPS, provides jobs for more than 40,000 Louisvillians, and Bowman Field is the nation’s oldest continuously operating airport.  This funding will increase efficiency and safety at both airports.”

“We certainly appreciate the support for these two FAA grants, as they allow the Authority to complete Taxiway Lima, a key project at Bowman Field, and fund several important safety-and airfield-improvement initiatives at Louisville International,” said J.D. Nichols, Chairman of the Board for the Louisville Regional Airport Authority.

Louisville International Airport, formerly Standiford Field, will receive $1,306,250 to acquire an aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicle that will replace an outdated, smaller emergency response vehicle.  The funding will also be used to purchase fire fighting proximity suits, repair pavement, and improve lighting.

Bowman Field will receive $1,330,000 to construct the southern portion of a new taxiway.  The new taxiway will reduce congestion, as well as airfield taxiway times.
