The Wright Brothers.
On December 17, 1903, after many years of research, Wilbur and Orville Wright made the first powered controlled flights in an airplane. Their research included dialog with other aeronautical enthusiasts, experimentation in their own constructed wind tunnel, and even test flights of full- and sub-scale models. As the second century of powered flight begins, the exploration of flight challenge continues in space.
Next year, this day will celebrate 100 years of flight.
