Francis Blair founded the New Mexico Poison and Drug Information Center in 1955. Today, the New Mexico center is one of the most active of its kind in the country.
![](/congress110th/20081217145604im_/http://wilson.house.gov/Media/NewsCenter/NM_Poison-2008-02.jpg) Frances received her BS and MS in Pharmacy from the University of Kansas and moved to the College of Pharmacy at the University of New Mexico in 1949 as one of the first female faculty members in pharmacy in the country. Francis taught pharmacy manufacturing, dispensing, the history of pharmacy and pharmacy law. In 1955, she started the New Mexico Poison and Drug Information Center.
From 1966 to 1986, Frances practiced pharmacy at Presbyterian Hospital, UNM Hospitals and the State Hospital in Las Vegas. In 1986, she began practice with the Indian Health Service where she went on to have an illustrious 16 year career. Frances has inspired thousands of pharmacy students, patients and decision makers over the past 58 years. Frances has always followed the principle that the “patient comes first”.
Last year Francis was nominated for recognition by U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson during Women's History Month in March. Francis was nominated by her friend and colleague Michele Disco.
