Who is the only person in U.S....
Who is the only person in U.S. history to serve as President and later as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court?
July 19, 2005
Here`s a second round of Supreme Court facts. With the retirement of Justice Sandra Day O`Connor, the first woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, the Court is in the news. But did you know ...
William H. Taft is the only President to also be appointed to the Supreme Court. He served as Chief Justice for nine years.
Jimmy Carter is the only President to serve out a complete term and never have an opportunity to name a Supreme Court nominee. Franklin Roosevelt and George W. Bush also completed their first terms without naming a nominee, but each had an opportunity to nominate a justice in their second terms.
