Wilson Transportation Funding Requests Approved by House Committee Today October 03, 2002

Infrastructure Improvements Pave the Way for Job Growth in Albuquerque
Washington, DC - Congresswoman Heather Wilson announced today that a number of funding requests she made for improvements to Albuquerque’s transportation infrastructure have been passed by the House Appropriations Committee. Included in the bill is the development at Double Eagle II Airport so that it can be ready for a potential aircraft manufacturing operation planned by Eclipse Aviation and increases in general aviation traffic. This project is scheduled to provide an estimated 2000 jobs at Eclipse and an additional 1000 jobs with support companies for a $110 million dollar a year payroll base by the year 2007. “Albuquerque is growing -- particularly on the west side. We need good jobs and the infrastructure to support them. These improvements are part of that effort,” Wilson said. The projects for which Wilson secured funding are: $2 million to upgrade the existing I-40 & Paseo del Volcan Interchange and Access Road to Double Eagle II Airport: Funding is needed to rebuild and improve the existing 40-year-old interchange and upgrade 5 miles of access road to Double Eagle Airport. The project will reconstruct and widen bridges and improve intersections with arterial streets. $2 million for the construction of a Control Tower at the Double Eagle II Airport: The Double Eagle II airport expects operations to increase from 41,000 to 110,000 operations per year. A new control tower will improve air traffic safety at this growing airport, which is expected to house an aircraft manufacturing facility and handle more corporate general aviation aircraft in the future. $2 million to replace Revenue Vehicles (buses) that have met or exceeded service life standards $1 million for the Interstate-40/Louisiana Interchange Project $300,000 for the Alvarado Transportation Center Phase II Project -END-
