Wilson Urges House Committee to Increase Funding for Head Start Programs September 13, 2002

Funding would allow 17,000 more children to benefit from early education programs
Washington, DC - Congresswoman Heather Wilson signed a bipartisan letter to Chairman Regula and Ranking Member Obey of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Heath and Human Services and Education. The letter urges the committee to support a proposed $332 million increase for Head Start. Funding at this level would provide services to 17,000 additional children and continue this Congress’ commitment to leaving no child behind. Head Start has served over 20 million children since it began in 1965. “This year we have been working to ‘Leave No Child Behind,’ and that starts with a solid foundation of early education” said Wilson. “Getting more kids into Head Start programs will give them the tools they need for a lifetime of learning.” --END--
