Wilson Announces Local Woman-Owned Firm Awarded Air Force Mentorship Program Contract October 11, 2002

Program Gives Small Businesses Guidance on Successfully Gaining Government Contracts
Washington, DC - Congresswoman Heather Wilson announced today that POD, Inc. is the first woman-owned firm in the United States to be awarded a contract under the U.S. Air Force Mentor-Protégé Program. POD, Inc. provides development, maintenance, and support of information systems for public and private organizations. Under the program, POD, Inc. will be paired with Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp, who will act as a mentor to the small business. Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. provides imaging and communications products for commercial and government customers worldwide. “This award is a testament to the dedication to client satisfaction and innovative approaches to information systems solutions that POD, Inc. embodies,” said Wilson. “I congratulate Samantha Lapin, President and CEO, and all the employees of POD, Inc. and wish them the best on a bright future.” The Air Force Mentor-Protégé Program provides a platform for both the mentor organization and the protégé organization to strengthen their competitiveness, and will benefit government agencies who award contracts to creative and highly professional small, disadvantaged and woman-owned businesses. The two firms will team up on Federal information technology projects, primarily in the areas of space, healthcare, and bio-terrorism. Typically such projects would involve software development, web applications development, or database design, development, integration, and maintenance. POD will work on projects as a subcontractor to Ball Aerospace, but as the Mentor-Protégé Program relationship evolves, POD will begin to bid on projects on its own until, ultimately, the business will establish itself as a viable information technology service provider to Federal agencies. -END-
