New Mexicans can send High-Tech Holiday Greetings to American Troops December 07, 2001

Wilson records DVD message to members of 150th Security Squadron stationed in Oman and New Mexico

Albuquerque, NM – Congresswoman Heather Wilson today encouraged New Mexicans to send holiday greetings to American troops stationed abroad and within the continental United States serving in operations Noble Eagle and Enduring Freedom. If you have a family member or a loved one serving in the U.S. Military, or if you’d simply like to express your gratitude to the men and women of our nation’s armed forces, you can participate in this public service project this holiday season.
Wilson recorded a message of her own for two groups of men and women of the New Mexico Air National Guard 150th Security Forces. The soldiers were recently deployed overseas and elsewhere in New Mexico and are from all corners of the state. New Mexicans can participate in the project, dubbed Message from America, by visiting the Circuit City Superstore in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The electronics store is part of a national coalition of businesses that has organized the use of technology to give Americans an opportunity to communicate with the men and women of the U.S. military. In cooperation with the U.S. Department of Defense, Message From America enables all Americans to videotape holiday greetings and expressions of support for the men and women of the Armed Forces. Between now and December 31st, New Mexicans need only visit a Circuit City store to videotape a 30-second message. These messages from the general public will be sent to the USO and Armed Forces Network to be shared with military personnel at military installations around the world. “Sixty years ago today, America was attacked at Pearl Harbor,” said Congresswoman Wilson. “Today, America is once again leading the world in a battle for freedom. New Mexicans served in World War II, and they`re serving today. I think this is a wonderful opportunity for New Mexicans to tell our men and women in uniform that we support them, that we have not forgotten about them, and that we appreciate the sacrifices they`re making to defend the freedoms we cherish as Americans.” “All of us have been looking for ways to support our country since September 11th,” said Kevin Allen, Store Manager at Circuit City`s Superstore in Albuquerque. “Message From America is a great way for us to use our people and our technologies to show the U.S. armed forces how grateful we are for their sacrifices.” As a special part of the Message From America public service program, family members with military Ids are able to record personal messages of up to five minutes in length for their loved ones. These personal messages will then be transferred to DVD, a process that takes from 20 to 30 minutes, then given to the family to mail to their loved ones.
