Wilson & Pearce Report Progress on Funding Request for NM Small Business Development June 21, 2007

Appropriations Bill Includes $300,000 for Adelante Development Center

Washington, DC – Reps. Heather Wilson and Steve Pearce today announced that the House is moving forward with $300,000 in funds for Adelante Development Center in Albuquerque to support skills training and job creation for small businesses in New Mexico.

The funding is included in the Financial Services Appropriations bill and could be considered by the full House as soon as next week.

Adelante Development Center, Inc. is a non-profit company that promotes school-to-work transition, creates and supports additional jobs in the small business community for people with mental illness and other disabilities, and creates and supports additional jobs through Adelante-operated small businesses. The funds specifically support Adelante’s Congressional Comprehensive Employment Network and Training (ACCENT) program, and would operate as venture capital for Adelante’s efforts.

“Congratulations to Adelante and keep up the good work,” Wilson said. “We’re pleased with the progress for this important funding. Adelante invests in the small business community in New Mexico, which in turn generates many new jobs. Small businesses drive our economy.”

“Adelante is a model for communities across the nation. The program provides real opportunity for people with disabilities and helps them move forward in the small business community,” said Pearce. “Other states around the country would be wise to pay attention to the success of the Adelante Development Center. I am glad to see they will receive the vital funding needed to keep this wonderful program going.”
