McDowell Not Participating in AT&T;/BellSouth Merger
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Heather Wilson, a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, today supported FCC Commissioner Robert M. McDowell`s announcement he will not participate in the pending proceeding regarding the AT&T; and BellSouth merger applications.
“I commend Commissioner McDowell for an ethical decision that stays on the white side of gray,” Wilson said. “He made the right decision for the right reason and we cannot ask more of a public servant. We want public officials that understand the importance of upholding the public trust. This ethical decision strikes the right note, and I`m encouraged by it.”
On March 13, 2006, Wilson (R-NM) was the only Republican member to call for a hearing before the House Energy and Commerce Committee on the merger of AT&T; and BellSouth. Wilson serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee`s Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet.
